Marouane - Thank you for having me! I’m happy to dive in. Selecting winning products for a dropshipping store is a crucial step in building a successful e-commerce business. Not only do I look for trending products, but I also check if the product is profitable when removing all the marketing expenses. You'll want to make sure there is room for profit and the product has a desirability where the market will have a need or a demand for what it is you choose.

Redde - Tell us about how you choose suppliers. What makes a great supplier relationship?

Marouane - Since a dropshipping supplier is a crucial step in setting up an online store, as it will be the one fulfilling orders and directly impacting your customer's experience, choose your supplier based on this criteria:

- Is the supplier selling authentic products (not fake or knock-off)?

- For how many years has the supplier been in business?

- Does the supplier have negative reviews from past clients?

- What are the shipping options and are there delays?

- What is the pricing for the products compared to other suppliers?

Once you pick a supplier for your business, aim to build a strong long-term collaboration by prioritizing communication and efficiency to ensure a smooth dropshipping experience. Also, discussing terms, bulk discounts, payment options and potential future partnerships can be helpful in making sure the partnership is mutually beneficial.

Redde - In dropshipping, how do you make sure your customers are happy from the moment they order until after they get their product?

Marouane - Keeping customers happy throughout the buying journey requires attention to detail across every touch point. Before the order, I try to understand the customers' needs and pain points. This personalization fosters trust and assures me I'm offering relevant products. Also, my dropshipping store product page must be clear about pricing, shipping costs, product features, and policies. I keep the customers informed about any delays or changes with timely updates.

However, during the order, I make sure that customers immediately receive an email or notification confirming the order and its details, providing accurate estimated delivery times and tracking information. After delivery, I send follow-up emails to ensure everything arrived in good condition and met their expectations. You can then encourage them to share feedback and ask questions to better their overall experience.

Redde - Thank you. That's very insightful since the customer experience is what can determine if the customer will become a future repeat shopper. Our next question pertains to challenges. As you know, every business has its challenges. What are common hiccups that dropshippers can face as a startup?

Marouane - Stats show that over 90% of dropshippers fail. There are many reasons why people fail, but the most common reasons are:

1- People don’t take the business seriously. Most individuals and startups think of it as a "get rich-quick scheme", and not as a long-term business.

2- Despite dropshipping being one of the most cost-effective business models for startups with low funding, the profit margin is often low, and if a startup can’t tackle some free ways to market their business and its products, it will end up losing money if they instead choose to pay for advertisements.

3- Branding is another challenge a startup can face when dropshipping. In order to establish a strong presence in a crowded market, a startup needs to think about marketing and branding the products. Instead of playing the dropshipper game of using the original packaging/imagery, investing in new branding will help with making your store a long-term business.

Redde - That's something that we see often with dropshipping. Often, we see merchants who come up with their own brand, logo and colors to make them standout amongst others who may sell the same product. This seems to make the store standout and appear more trustworthy among consumers. Next question! What are some cool marketing tricks you used to get people excited about your products?

Marouane - As an SEO expert, I always rely 90% on this marketing strategy to drive an evergreen high quality traffic to my dropshipping store. I often hire great copywriters and bloggers in order to publish attractive articles on my dropshipping site, this strategy allows my customers read more information about the products and services, but it also allows me to get more new readers from Google that I turn into customers.

Redde - Articles do drive traffic! Our last question is for if someone wants to take their dropshipping business to the next level. What are your top tips for growth?

Marouane - Sure thing! With all the new technologies and new AI tools, one can start a dropshipping store almost for free and in just a few hours. But making the business successful is another story. In order to take the business to the next level, I would recommend focusing on long-term marketing techniques like SEO rather than paid advertisements. I would also recommend dropshippers to think about branding so they can increase the brand awareness, and even the selling price, which will cause an increase in your profit margin. If the business reaches a point where the owner can afford to have its own warehouse for stocking and shipping the products, this would be the start of a new and rapidly increasing store.
